Our history
1968 Doug's First Venture

Doug Cory founded his first business, Cory Johnston Pty Ltd, with co-founder Don Johnston.

At the time, Cory Johnston was one of only two meat wholesalers within the Brisbane region.

1979 The First Site

Our founder, Doug Cory, first constructed a cold store on 2.2 hectares at Lytton Rd, Hemmant.

Doboy was built to service the storage and distribution needs of his flagship meat and produce business, Cory Johnston Pty Ltd.

1990 Steady Growth

Doboy Cold Stores grew steadily as did the building. The original site coverage of 1,350m2 grew to 10,000m2 by 1990.

The facility had capacity for 10,000 pallets, blast freezing for 200 tonne per cycle, an export-accredited boning room that processed 300 head of cattle per day and pet food processing for an international brand.

1996 The Second Site

A second site was commissioned on 2 hectares at nearby Canberra St, Hemmant.

It housed 4,500 pallets and set a new benchmark in design and construction techniques for the industry.

1999 Doug Cory Retires

Doug Cory retires, following a stellar business career, spanning almost four decades.

The day to day responsibilities for the group fall to Company Directors, David O’Brien and Trevor Cory.

2001 A Change of Hands

Doug sells Cory Johnston Pty Ltd to his younger brother Trevor Cory and long-time employee Peter Shearer.

2003 Investing in the Future

Doug Cory’s succession plan and the transition of ownership, via a management buyout, is now well under way.

David O’Brien becomes a major shareholder and succeeds Doug Cory as Managing Director.
